About Janta Girls' College

Established in 1998 by the Welfare Trust, Ellenabad, Janta Girls’ College was founded to make quality higher education accessible to young women from Ellenabad and the surrounding Haryana–Rajasthan region. Affiliated with Chaudhary Devi Lal University, Sirsa, the college offers undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in Arts, Commerce, and Science while promoting academic excellence, moral values, and holistic development.

About Us

A Legacy of Excellence Since 1998

Janta Girls’ College in Ellenabad was founded in 1998 by the Welfare Trust, Ellenabad as a response to the educational backwardness of the region at the time. The trust recognized that educating girls had a multiplying effect on the wider community, since an educated young woman tends to carry that learning forward into her own household and the next generation, and it set up the college specifically to serve poor and economically weaker families in the surrounding rural belt.

When it opened its doors, Janta Girls’ College was the only college of its kind in Ellenabad, making it the first real avenue for higher education available to girls from the town and its neighboring villages without their having to travel far afield. Because Ellenabad sits close to the Haryana–Rajasthan border, the college’s reach extends well beyond the state line, drawing students from numerous villages across both Haryana and Rajasthan.

The college today functions as a degree-granting institution affiliated with Chaudhary Devi Lal University, offering courses across three streams: Arts, Commerce and Science, with popular programs including BA, BSc, BCom, MA, and MCom. Beyond the classroom, the institution emphasizes extracurricular activity and broader student development, and graduates have gone on to opportunities in both the corporate and public sectors as well as into entrepreneurship.

The founding philosophy reflects a pattern common to several institutions established by community welfare trusts in this part of Haryana: the conviction that rural upliftment runs through education, and that girls’ education in particular had been neglected and needed dedicated institutional support to take root. By placing a women’s college in a then-underserved area, the Welfare Trust, Ellenabad gave families who might otherwise have kept their daughters out of higher education, whether for reasons of distance, cost, or social conservatism, a practical and nearby option to continue studying.

Janta Girls’ College operates on a self-financed basis, meaning it doesn’t rely on direct government funding for its day-to-day running, yet it has kept its fee structure deliberately modest. This was a conscious choice in keeping with the trust’s founding purpose: a college built to serve poor and economically weaker families would defeat its own aim if it charged fees those families couldn’t manage. The Janta Welfare Trust, headed by Sh. Hanuman Prasad Aggarwal along with other trustees, has sustained this approach over the years, and the trust’s members have consistently stepped forward with donations whenever the college has needed additional support, whether for infrastructure, scholarships, or other expenses that nominal fee income alone couldn’t cover. That willingness to give back has effectively underwritten the college’s mission, allowing it to keep its doors open to girls who might otherwise have been priced out of higher education.

Nearly three decades on, Janta Girls’ College remains a fixture of Ellenabad’s educational landscape, and its location on the Haryana-Rajasthan border continues to give it a catchment area that few comparably sized colleges in the region can match.
